Building a home is a daunting task, and many don’t know where to start. We’ve laid out a basic description below to give you an idea of what it looks like to work with Coteau Prairie Homes to build your home!
Planning
First off, we congratulate you on taking the first steps to building your home! When you meet with us for the first time, we’re going to narrow in on the major portions of what you need in a home. While the sky is the limit for what is possible to design, we know that budgets are also a factor in this process. We will discuss what your budget is, alongside your necessities, such as floor plan layout, bedrooms and bathrooms needed, etc.
Using this information we’ll be able to design the majority of your home in the very first meeting – at no cost to you. Using this plan, we’ll get you budgetary numbers for the price of your home within a couple of days. This will include some budgetary numbers on the foundation installation at your building site as well, along with a garage and more if we’ve planned for it! If you haven’t already, by this point we will strongly encourage you to go tour where your home will be built at Heritage Homes in Wayne, NE. There’s so much to learn and see!
From there, we will meet again to discuss any changes that might be needed. Once you’re ready, we can move to a full set of plans. At this point, it’s time for picking out the final details in your home, such as colors for flooring, siding, etc.
After we finish sprucing up your plans, it’s time to send them to Heritage Homes, where your home will be put on the schedule to be built. At this point, we’ve entered the building portion of the process. Hooray!
Building
While your home is being built, it’s time to get your building site prepared for the home. This means we will be preparing the foundation, stubbing utilities, and getting everything set up so that when your home is complete, we are ready to receive and install it.
By the time your home enters the construction process, it can be completed in as little as 5 1/2 weeks, so it’s important that we have all our ducks in a row. While you’re waiting, you can stop by Heritage Homes at any point to see how the construction of your home is coming along.

Installing
Your home is completed, and is on it’s way to your building site. We’re almost finished! When it arrives, we will install each section of the home by crane onto your foundation. It will be secured together and completed according to its needs. This includes completing the roof, interior, and siding where the sections join together. It will also include any garage or additional building and overhangs for your home that have been decided on.
In short, by the time the home arrives to your site, we are days away from a move-in ready home. The speed of this process is one of the many advantages to system built modular homes.
